Sage Bambino vs Bambino Plus: which should you buy?
Pay for easier milk, or save for the grinder?
The core decision is the steam wand. The standard Bambino offers manual milk steaming; the Plus offers automatic texturing with adjustable temperature and texture as well as manual control. Both still require you to prepare the coffee, and neither includes a grinder.

We compared published manufacturer specifications and the displayed UK list and US promotional prices. These are buying conclusions, not results from hands-on tests. Promotions, finishes and regional model details may vary.
Quick verdict
If you usually drink espresso and want to learn milk steaming, the standard Bambino leaves more of the budget for a grinder. If milk drinks are central to the household routine, the Plus is the more convenient choice because the wand can texture milk automatically while leaving manual control available. Neither machine removes the grind, dose and tamp steps.
The difference in price should be weighed against how often you would use automatic milk, not a claim that one produces better espresso. We have not tested shots or milk side by side. These conclusions are based on the current manufacturer descriptions and the jobs each model asks you to do.

What the price gap actually buys
At the manufacturer prices checked on 29 September, the UK machine-only gap is £70. The US promotional gap is $150; those offers can end independently. The Plus premium chiefly buys automatic milk temperature and texture choices. Both still have the same basic portafilter preparation, 54 mm format and separate-grinder requirement. For an espresso-only drinker, the extra feature may see little use. For a household making several cappuccinos, it may be the part used every day.
Which should you choose?
Choose the Bambino if…
You are happy to learn manual steaming, mostly drink straight espresso, or want to put more of the budget towards a capable grinder. It retains the same basic grind, tamp and brew routine. Read our Bambino buying review.
Choose the Plus if…
You regularly make milk drinks and value the automatic wand’s help. You can still steam manually when you want more control. Read our full Bambino Plus buying review.
In either case, plan the complete setup before you buy. A grinder and fresh coffee will matter to the experience, while cleaning and water care continue after the purchase. The manufacturer’s warm-up figures describe the heating system; they do not measure the time needed to prepare a drink.

As one consistent reference, add the Baratza Encore ESP to either machine. This is an example budget, not a claim that it is the only compatible grinder. Manufacturer price snapshots were checked on 29 September 2026; totals exclude beans, a scale, accessories, delivery and any tax differences.

Frequently asked questions
Do both use the same size portafilter?
Both manufacturer pages specify a 54 mm portafilter. Check an accessory’s stated compatibility with your exact model before ordering.
Does the Plus make coffee automatically?
No. Its automatic feature concerns milk texturing. You still grind or dose coffee, fill and tamp the basket, and brew the shot.
Why is the price gap different in the UK and US?
These are separate manufacturer prices in different markets, not currency conversions. The US figures include a temporary Breville promotion as checked on 29 September 2026; check the current offer and exact finish before buying.
